Trying to Conceive? Consider Your Underwear.
When you and your partner are thinking about starting a family, what crosses your mind first? There are many things to think about, and there are a number of things you can do to increase your chances of successfully conceiving. Today though, we want to focus on something you may not have thought about—your underwear. Believe it or not, your choice of underwear can affect your fertility.
What the Science Says
For a long time, there was a debate about whether your choice of underwear could really affect your fertility. Though it’s been widely believed for a long time, for years we lacked the data to conclusively prove it. That isn’t the case anymore, as studies show that men who wear constricting or tight underwear had statistically lower sperm concentration compared to those that wore loose-fitting or more breathable and comfortable, well-fitting underwear. One of the biggest surprises is that men who wore the latter had a 25 percent higher sperm count on average. This percentage is certainly not insignificant, and it means men need to pay attention to their choices in undergarments and assuring a proper fit when trying to conceive.
Why It’s Good News
Underwear affecting fertility might all seem a bit concerning, but in reality, it’s a good thing! Because it’s an easy fix. The best underwear to wear when trying to conceive is loose or properly-fitting and breathable. Some people actually recommend going commando. We don’t think that’s really practical or comfortable for everyday life. Your best bet is to try a pair of our soft, breathable trunks, boxer briefs or biker briefs in a size that truly fits you. You may also want to order a size above what you normally wear.
When you need breathability and a material that can shed heat, but maybe you can’t stand the feeling of not having your stuff supported, there’s something for that too! Believe it or not, men’s thongs can be a great option. They offer great support without all the extra material and allow you to feel supported while still breathing free.
Related Fertility Issues
When you’re trying to conceive, you often have an elevated level of stress. This can be compounded if things don’t go smoothly right away. In fact, the stress of trying to conceive can, somewhat ironically contribute to sexual dysfunction. It's not uncommon for men to experience ED while trying to conceive. While this is often temporary, it can create a vicious cycle that isn’t good for your self-confidence. If you’re having trouble in this area, your best bet is to talk to your doctor about a treatment like viagra. Strangely, many people seem to believe that your underwear choices can affect your ability to get and maintain an erection. This belief probably stems from the known effects of underwear on fertility. That said, your underwear is definitely not going to cause ED. We’re not entirely sure why this myth continues to persist, and it can make it hard to distinguish fact from fiction, but hopefully, we’ve cleared up some misinformation.
A lot of people, especially men, don’t give a lot of thought to their underwear. At Wood Underwear, we’d like to change that. You deserve to feel comfortable, so take some time to look through your dresser, and maybe think about getting rid of those old briefs or boxers for something more suitable. We guarantee you’ll wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner!
